We are proud to welcome attorney Michael S. McLeran as the newest associate to the Betty, Neuman, & McMahon team.
Michael joined the firm in 2018, and his practice focuses primarily on insurance defense and general liability defense. He previously served as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Iowa Business Court and the Iowa District Court, Seventh Judicial District, where he worked closely with several Iowa District Court judges. Michael is licensed to practice law in Iowa and Arizona, and is in the process of obtaining his Illinois license.
Michael was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. He moved to Iowa to attend Grinnell College where he was a wide receiver and kick returner on their football team. Michael returned to Arizona to finish his undergraduate studies at Arizona State University, W.P. Carey School of Business where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Business Economics in 2012. Prior to law school, Michael worked as an instructor at Apex Fun Run-a fundraising company that teaches leadership to elementary school children-and as an assistant escrow officer at First Arizona Title Agency.
Michael returned to Iowa to attend Drake University Law School, and in 2017, he graduated with high honors and a Business Law Certificate. While at Drake, Michael worked as a law clerk for Patterson Law Firm LLP and as a summer associate for Heidman Law Firm, LLP. He also represented multiple clients as a Certified Student Attorney at Drake’s Nonprofit and Transactional Clinic. Additionally, Michael was the Articles Editor on the Drake Law Review, and had his note published in 2017 entitled, “Playing for Peanuts: Determining Fair Compensation for NCAA Student-Athletes.” Michael also participated in the ABA Client Counseling Competition, C. Edwin Moore Moot Court Competition, and First Year Oral Argument Competition.
Michael resides with his wife in Davenport, Iowa. He is an avid sports fan, and in his free time he enjoys golfing, working out, hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors.
